PMP HA issues

$

Hello,

We did setup a secondary server for PMP. Under high availability tab on Primary server it shows

High Availability Status : Not Running

Replication Status : Active

PMP service always shows stopped on Secondary server no mattter how many times you start the service with admin privilege.

I followed the HA guide on website to setup up HA with PMP pro and mySQL.

Both the servers are in same vlan for test purpose so I can assure you there is no network connectivity issue.

Thank you.

Migrate PMP to Linux from Windows

I want to migrate our current PMP installation from Windows using MySQL to Linux RHEL 7 using MariaDB. Has anyone else done this and are there any instructions for doing so? Are there any problems with going to REHL7 or CentOS7? I see they are not specifically listed as supported but there really shouldn't be a problem doing so that I can think of.

Changing password on Cisco Devices

I have started to add a Cisco device to my configuration but I am running into a "configuration" issue when changing the password of the local admin account and the enable password.

Our normal configuration is that all logins are done through external accounts checked by the AAA server. This works fine. The Cisco device is therefore configured to ask for an username first. Goal is to add the Cisco device to PMP and configure the change of the password for the admin account and the enable password.

The admin account on the device is always PRIV1. The manual procedure would be to establish an SSH session with the device using admin and the password. Type enable and then the password to get PRIV15 when needed.

How do I configure my device in PMP? (I changed the IP address obviously)

According to the manual I need to select something to switch to enable (PRIV15) when the account that not have that level before changing the password. But in the AAA logging I see that once the session is established, with admin and the corresponding password, the switch to enable mode is done with sending the username again followed by the password. The Cisco device is expecting the password and not the user name. Result is an error on the switch as the username is send as the password while the password ends up on the CLI.

How can I configure the resource correctly?

When I change the default priviliged level of the admin account to 15 the password change works flawlessy.

You're going to need to figure out why the service on the secondary is not staying running as that sounds like the real problem. What does the event viewer say (assuming you are running on windows) and other PMP logs?

We are experiencing the same problem here. We upgraded to the build 8001 prior to setting up the HA Secondary and followed the instructions to create the replication link. Checking the status of high availability in the Admin tab on the primary shows:

High Availability status     :     Not Running

If I attempt to browse to the secondary I get redirected to the primary, which I assume is by design.

Any assistance to resolve this would be most appreciated!

Hi,

Thanks for the forum post.
Please zip and send the <PMP-Home>/logs folder from the secondary server to passwordmanagerpro-support@manageengine.com so that we can analyse the root cause of the issue and get back to you.

Re : Private key (.ppk, .pem) retrieval via the API

Hi Steve,

Thanks for the forum post.
Yes. Different file types like Digital Certificates, Licence Keys, Files, Documents, Images etc. can be securely stored in the PMP repository along with the passwords. You can refer this link for more information. Since, PMP allows you store various file types the private keys can be stored as an attachment and retrieved from PMP.

At present, we have an option to retrieve the private keys only from the web console. We will analyse the feasibility and provide an option to retrieve the private keys using API in one of our upcoming releases.

Feel free to write us if you have any other questions.

Thanks & Regards,

Hi Darren,

Thanks for the forum post.
Please navigate to Admin -> General settings and Check the box "Activate Auto Logon" which is the last option. Now, click on open connection and it should show the auto logon helper scripts created by you.

Note: This method will work only in Internet Explorer and not with other browsers.

Feel free to write to us if you have any other questions.

Re : How to record operations from putty?

Hi,

Thanks for the forum post.
PMP provides two type of Auto Logon helper.
  • Auto Logon Gateway(supports session recording)
  • Auto Logon Helper scripts ( session recording not available but audit event will be stored when any application is invoked)
Auto Logon Gateway allows the users to launch remote terminal sessions from their browser that are tunneled through the PMP server and the remote terminal sessions are emulated in the browser screen itself. Currently, this feature is supported for Windows RDP, SSH and Telnet with privileged session recording.

Auto Logon Helper scripts will be invoked from the browser but the remote terminal session(for example telnet, launch rdp, putty etc) will be launched from the local boxes. Users can launch this helper scripts by clicking on the open connection icon present next to every user account. These session will not be recorded but audit event will be stored as Password retrieved. But the helper scripts will work only in IE. It will not work in other browsers.

So, session recording is supported only for Auto Logon Gateway and helper scripts does not session recording. But, when you use helper scripts an audit even will be recorded stating password retrieved using auto logon helper scrips.

Feel free to write to us if you have any other questions.

Thanks & Regards,
Chris

Re : maintain latest X backup(s) only

Hi Andrew,

Thanks for the forum post.
The option to maintain the last backups is available only with PostgreSQL and MySQL database. We believe you are using MS-SQL database. For MS-SQL database we use the native MS-SQL backup methods for creating backups. Since, it is native SQL method and you have an option to delete the old backup from SQL. Please refer this link for the same.

Please try the same and let us know how it goes.

Hi Frank / Michelle,

Thanks for the forum post.
Due to the latest chrome update, we had few issues in accessing PMP from the chrome browser and other accessibility. We have identified this issue and released a hotfix as upgrade 8001 to fix it and as well as other browser based issues. We request you to upgrade your installation to 8001 to fix this issue. You can find the release notes for the same here.

You can download the upgrade packs from here and use the instructions mentioned here to apply the upgrade packs one by one. Please take a backup of the entire PMP directory prior to the upgradeIf MS SQL is configured as back end, do take a backup of PassTrix database present in MS SQL Server. Once upgraded, we request you to clear the cache from the browsers and check if the issue is fixed. Let us know how it goes.

Look forward to hear from you.

Thanks & Regards,
Chris

Re : Two Factor authentication with DouSecurity

Hi Dennis,

Thanks for the forum post.
Unfortunately, the DUO security is not supported out-of-box for two factor authentication with PMP officially. But, you can use any radius compliant two factor authentication software with PMP and we believe DUO is also Radius compliant. From the documentation link we see that DUO Security server can be configured as a Radius Server. But, we do have plans to support DUO security officially in one of our future releases.

Feel free to write to us if you have any other questions.

Hi,

Thanks for the post and our apologies for the inconvenience caused.
Could you please check whether you are able to access PMP web console on the Agent servers. If so, please zip and send the PMPAgent.log present inside agent installation directory along with your contact details so that we can analyse the root cause and get back to you. Also, let us know the PMP version and build number you are using.

Look forward to hear from you.

or this line at the beginning should fix things:

[System.Net.ServicePointManager]::ServerCertificateValidationCallback = {$true}
